Confederate Flag Afghan By Anne in Manitoba. (These are her instructions)

I offer this pattern free to any and all who want it for several reasons. I did not design the Confederate Flag, I have only interpreted it in crochet. It is also my first venture into writing a pattern. The pattern is no where near polished enough to merit payment. If anyone really feels the need to compensate me for my time, please make a contribution to your local no-kill cat/animal shelter.

IMPORTANT NOTE: When I made this afghan for my husband, I started with a piece of graph paper, and worked out a balanced pattern. When I crocheted, I unfortunately made the odd mistake. As long as the afghan still looked balanced, and/or the mistake was not easily seen, I left it in. When I was first approached about sharing the pattern, I was unable to locate the original graph, so I went back and counted stitches on the finished afghan. And, when I counted, I saw that I seem to have picked up a couple of extra stitches, probably to correct an earlier error. Having left the mistakes has made converting a finished afghan into written directions difficult. SO - trust to your crocheting, rather than my counting. That is, if I say to do 120 sts, but that wouldn't match the pattern, do what looks best.

I am writing this with the assumption that the person following has some experience with colour change in crochet, and basic knowledge of single and double crochet. It is my first attempt at writing directions for a pattern, so please forgive any errors.
If you have any questions, I will try to answer them as best as I can; email me

I used: Crochet hook G Worsted weight yarn: Burgundy 1000 grams, Navy 500 grams, White 300 grams (Red Heart Comfort Yarn, sold in 454 gram balls, I used two plus a bit of the burgundy/wine/dark red, one 454 gram ball of dark blue/navy, and two 200 gram balls of white, with left over yarn.
I also found that the use of "bobbins" or some other method of working with multiple colour changes useful)

Row 2: starting in last sc of row, With Navy, dc in each sc for 24 sts, change to white, dc in next 3 sc, change to burgundy, dc in next 150, white 3, navy 24, chain 3,Turn (burgundy will be abbreviated "R" from here, Navy as "N", and White as "W".

Stitches used: Chain, Single Crochet, and Double Crochet

Chain 205 with burgundy Row 1: single crochet burgundy in second ch from hook and in each chain after - 204sts. Chain 3, turn (Do not count chain 3 turn as a stitch in the row: each row must consist of 204 double crochet stitches, plus the chain 3) Remainder of afghan worked in double crochet, until very last row. Therefore: R3, N4 would be use burgundy for 3 dc, and Navy for 4 dc, for example.)
