This site collects crochet and knitting patterns, along with the reference material you need to actually use them.

What is here

Patterns, organised by what they make – blankets, garments, accessories, toys and pieces for the home. Some are original designs written for this site; others are write-ups of projects worth knowing about, with the materials, sizing and technique notes you need to judge whether one suits you before you buy the yarn.

Reference charts. Hook and needle size conversions between US, English and metric, and the abbreviation lists that patterns are written in. These get used more than anything else on the site, and they are worth keeping open in a tab while you work.

Articles on technique, materials and the practical side of the crafts – choosing yarn, caring for finished pieces, reading instructions that are not as clear as they should be.

Who it is for

Anyone with a hook or a pair of needles. The beginner patterns are chosen to be finishable rather than merely simple-looking, which is a real distinction and the reason most people give up early.

Experienced crafters will find the reference pages and the pattern archive more useful than the introductory material.

How the patterns are written

Each pattern page states the yarn weight, the hook or needle size, and the finished dimensions where they are known. Those are the numbers that let you substitute yarn sensibly rather than guessing.

Where a pattern came from somewhere else, the designer is credited.

A note on terminology

Crochet terms differ between the US and the UK, and the same words mean different stitches – a UK double crochet is a US single crochet. Patterns here follow US terms unless stated otherwise. If a fabric comes out obviously wrong, that is the first thing to check.
