My Version of the Braided Puff Stitch Slouch Hat Includes instructions on where to start decreasing for a regular hat.

This is a close up view of the stitches and how they looked "braided".
MATERIALS
Yarn: 4 ply Worsted Weight. I don't know how much I used. I used left over
balls of yarn from other projects.
Hook: 5.00 mm
Size: Adult and possibly teens as well.
st - stitch ch - chain sc - single crochet hdc - half double crochet
PS - puff stitch YO - yarn over hdc2tog - half double crochet 2 together
Puff Stitch (PS) - No need to yarn over at first, just insert your hook into the stitch
and pull up a loop, (if you do mistakenly YO and have the stitch completed, don't worry about it,
I found myself doing it a lot, hard habit to break, the stitch is fine, you don't have to re-do it.)
Yarn over and repeat this 3 more times. You will have 9 loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull through
all 9 loops. Ch 1 to secure. Mostly the puff stitch is done by inserting the hook and pulling up a
loop 3 times but I added the extra loop for more puffiness.
Hdc2tog - YO insert hook in st, pull up a loop, YO insert hook in next st and pull up a loop, YO and pull through all loops on hook.
Gauge: 3 puff sts = 2 inches 3 rows of sc ribbing = 1 inch
The multiples of this stitch are 3 and add 2.
