Crocheted Child's Hat Pattern

MATERIALS

Yarn: 4 ply worsted weight.

Hook - 5.00 mm or H hook

SIZE: I made this hat for my 3 year old grandson.

Notes: to make a larger hat, add more chains to the foundation row in multiples of 2. Add more rows in multiples of 4.

sc - single crochet tr - treble crochet

How To Make the Treble Crochet (tr) - Wrap yarn over the hook twice, insert hook into stitch, yarn over hook, pull up a loop, yarn over hook and pull through 2 loops on hook, yarn over hook and pull through the next 2 loops on hook, yarn over hook and pull through the last 2 loops on hook.

Foundation row: - Chain 41

Row 1: 1 sc, 1 tr, repeat from * to * to the last 2 stitches. 1 sc in each of the last 2 stitches. Ch 1, turn. (40 sts)

NOTE: all stitches for the rest of the pattern are worked through the back loops only.

Row 2: 1 sc in the next 34 stitches, leaving last 6 stitches unworked. Ch 1and turn. (34 stitches)

Row 3: 1sc, 1 tr, repeat from * to * to the last 2 stitches. 1 sc in each of the last 2 stitches. Ch 1, turn. (34 sts)

Row 4: 1 sc in each of the 34 stitches, 1 sc in each of the 6 previously unworked stitches. Ch 1 and turn. (40 sts)

Repeat Rows 1 to 4 until you have 56 rows or, the desired width.

Use a yarn needle to gather the top and close, sew side seam. Optionally add a pom-pom.
